Martin Bender takes 2nd Overall in the 2025 Freeride World Tour

The 2025 FIS Freeride World Tour came to a dramatic close Thursday, March 20, at the legendary Verbier Xtreme, firmly in springtime snow conditions and bright sunshine. Among the season’s standout athletes, Faction Collective rider Martin Bender cemented his place in freeride history, securing a 2nd-place finish overall in the Ski Mens category, within touching distance of the title. At just 20 years old, the Verbier local has already become a legend in his home mountains, with a trademark bravado and creativity that have made him one of the most enjoyable freeride skiers to watch this season.

A Breakout Season

After an appearance at the Baqueira Pro in the Pyrenees, Bender kicked his campaign into the highest gear with a statement performance at the Val Thorens Pro. Dropping into a face laden with fresh snow, he executed one of the most stylish runs of the season, featuring back-to-back 360s, massive air over a rock bench, and a perfectly timed double drop. His efforts earned him 91.67 points—his first-ever FWT victory and a defining moment in his young career.

Never slowing down, Bender kept the momentum rolling in the Caucasus Mountains at the Georgia Pro, where he once again edged onto the podium. In sketchy conditions, he charged through massive features with a seemingly effortless flow, throwing down a 90.33-scoring run that solidified his reputation as a serious title contender; unstoppable on his Studio 3s.

Homecoming in Verbier

Heading into Verbier’s prestigious Xtreme competition in our shared hometown, Bender was within close striking distance of the overall 2025 title. In front of a roaring home crowd, he went all-in on his final run, showcasing technical skill and aggression through the exposure of the Bec des Rosses. However, a late crash while attempting a cork 7 off a massive cliff drop ultimately dashed his hopes of clinching the championship. Despite the setback, his tournament performance secured 2nd overall in the tour, finishing ahead of the USA’s Toby Rafford in 3rd and just behind Canada’s Marcus Goguen, who claimed the title.

Beyond the Bec’s No-Fall zone
