Over this season, we asked for edits, no longer than 60 seconds, showcasing talent and style in freeride, freestyle, park, and backcountry skiing. The response exceeded our expectations. Women athletes from 13 countries submitted edits that showed their personal flair, vying for one of two spots on next year's athlete roster and an invitation to our upcoming campaign shoots.
The panel was comprised of a mixture of Faction team members, and the task was straightforward but challenging: identify the two athletes who best represented the future of women's freeskiing.
After some careful deliberation, and a LOT of video replays, here are the winners.
French rider Mona Lecluze proves herself on a mixture of park and freeride terrain, and took pole position in the Freeride panel vote. At only 16, she demonstrated a level of skill and confidence that set her apart from the competition. A bold mix of steeze, carefully executed cliff drops, and wild aerial execution, she was a hard entry to beat. We have a very good feeling about where her skiing will take her.
British skier Ash Clayton, aged 21, impressed in a big way, and topped the Freestyle panel vote. We knew this spot would be especially competitive, but she came through with park riding that is both confident and controlled. She won over everyone with her clean takeoffs, committed tricks, and smooth landings throughout her submission.
The judges noted her ability to make difficult maneuvers look effortless.
Nina Maeder, 23, from Switzerland, earned Runner-Up recognition for her freeride edit. Nina's submission stood out with a blend of big mountain riding and an equal dose of heart and personality, which stuck with us.
We want her to continue riding and creating.
To everyone who submitted: thank you. The level of talent in this competition was impressive, and we're excited to see where these athletes go next. Congratulations to Mona, Ash, and Nina.
